Treclin Gel 1%/0.025%
What is Treclin Gel?
Treclin Gel is a prescription-only topical treatment for acne. It combines clindamycin, an antibiotic, and tretinoin, a retinoid, to effectively target acne-causing bacteria, reduce inflammation, and promote skin cell turnover. It is suitable for treating mild to moderate acne on the face, chest, and back.
What is Treclin Gel used for?
Treclin Gel is used to treat acne vulgaris, including blackheads, whiteheads, and red, inflamed spots. The dual-action formula addresses the root causes of acne and helps prevent new breakouts from forming.
How does Treclin Gel work?
Treclin Gel contains:
- Clindamycin (1%): An antibiotic that kills acne-causing bacteria, reducing inflammation and preventing the formation of new spots.
- Tretinoin (0.025%): A retinoid that promotes skin cell turnover, preventing clogged pores and reducing the appearance of existing acne.
Together, these ingredients address both bacterial infection and skin cell renewal.
How to use Treclin Gel
Apply Treclin Gel once daily, preferably in the evening. Follow these steps:
- Cleanse your face with a gentle, non-comedogenic cleanser and pat dry.
- Apply a pea-sized amount of Treclin Gel to the entire affected area (not just individual spots).
- Massage gently until absorbed. Avoid contact with the eyes, lips, and mucous membranes.
- Use sunscreen during the day, as tretinoin increases sun sensitivity.
It may take several weeks to see noticeable results. Continue using as prescribed, even if your acne appears to worsen initially.
How long can you use Treclin Gel?
Treclin Gel is typically prescribed for up to 12 weeks. The exact duration of treatment will depend on your skin's response. A break will need to be taken as the bacteria can become resistant to the Clindamycin. During this break, you can use other creams/gels that do not contain antibiotics such as Acnecide gel instead for a few weeks before going back to Treclin.
Treclin Gel ingredients
Active ingredients: Clindamycin phosphate (1%) and Tretinoin (0.025%).
Other ingredients: Purified water, glycerol, carbomers, methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218), propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), polysorbate 80 (E433), disodium edetate, citric acid, anhydrous, butylhydroxytoluene (E321), trometamol.
Precautions for using Treclin Gel
While Treclin gel is safe to use on most types of skin some care must be taken when using it:
- Do not use Treclin Gel if you are allergic to clindamycin, tretinoin, or any of the ingredients.
- Avoid applying the gel to damaged, sunburned, or irritated skin.
- Use sunscreen daily and limit sun exposure while using this product, as tretinoin increases sun sensitivity.
- Avoid using other retinoids or harsh exfoliants to prevent irritation.
- Consult your doctor before use if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Possible side effects of Treclin Gel
Common side effects include:
- Skin dryness or peeling
- Mild redness or irritation
- Temporary worsening of acne during the first few weeks
These effects usually subside as your skin adjusts to the treatment. If severe irritation or an allergic reaction occurs, discontinue use and consult your doctor.
Treclin Gel during pregnancy and breastfeeding
Treclin Gel is not recommended during pregnancy due to the potential risk associated with tretinoin. If you become pregnant while using Treclin, stop treatment and consult your doctor. For breastfeeding mothers, avoid applying Treclin Gel to the chest area to prevent accidental ingestion by the baby. Always consult a healthcare provider before use.
