If you have had unprotected sex or your contraception may have failed such as a condom splitting or missing a contraceptive pill emergency contraception can be used to prevent pregnancy. Emergency contraception should be taken as soon as possible after unprotected sex as the sooner it is used the better. They are do not provide long lasting contraception and you should continue to use your regular contraception or you may become pregnant.
