Gout is a common form of arthritis the can affect anyone. The symptoms include sudden, severe attacks of pain, swelling, redness and tenderness in one or more joints. Diet and alcohol consumption can increase the chance of gout attacks, which are caused by too much uric acid in your blood leading to crystals forming around your joints. Gout attacks can be treated with painkillers such as ibuprofen and resting. Preventing another attack can be done with diet changes or medication.
