Asthma affects 12% of the population and is a condition in which your airways become narrow and swell due to inflammation and tightening of the muscles around the small airways. This can make breathing difficult and causse asthma symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and chest tightness. Symptoms canbe worse at night or during exercise. Some people also have other triggers which vary from person to person. There are no cures but treatments are available to make asthma manageable such as reliever inhalers and preventer inhalers.
