threadworms
Threadworms are tiny worms that can be seen in stool or around the anus. They can cause intense itching especially at night. They are very common in children with approximately 40% of children in the UK having a threadworm infestation at some point in their lives. Antiworming can be taken which kills any live worms but not the eggs, with another be taken 2 weeks later if needed to kill any worms that may have hatched. Everyone in the household should take a tablet even if they have no symptoms due to how easy the worms are spread.
