About Hightown Pharmacy
An independent pharmacy on Alt Road in Hightown, Merseyside, trading since 2004. Two pharmacists run it. Both are named below, and you can check both on the public register.
The people behind it
-
Daniel Higham
MPharm, Superintendent pharmacist and owner
Runs the pharmacy and is personally accountable to the regulator for how it operates. Writes and reviews the advice articles on this site under his own name.
-
Farzin Ghayedy
MPharm, Pharmacist independent prescriber
Reviews patient consultations and writes prescriptions when it is clinically appropriate. Also the person who says no when it is not.
How it started
Dan and Farzin met at the University of Central Lancashire, where they both studied pharmacy. They stayed friends after graduating and kept coming back to the same problem: getting hold of a medicine you already know you need is harder than it needs to be. You wait for an appointment to be told what you had worked out yourself, then you queue.
Dan took over Hightown Pharmacy in 2022 and they built the online side of it together. The shop on Alt Road still serves the village. The website serves everyone else. Both are dispensed from the same counter by the same people, which is not true of every online pharmacy.
We have treated over 41,000 patients and sent out more than 62,000 items.
What we are trying to do
Make it easier to get treatment for the things people put off dealing with, without making them justify themselves to anyone. Charge a fair price and show it up front, including the prescription. Post it in packaging that gives nothing away.
We would rather be the pharmacy that occasionally tells you no than the one that sells you anything you ask for. If a consultation is refused you will be told why, and what to do instead. There is more on that in how it works.
Where our medicines come from
Every medicine we dispense is sourced from licensed UK wholesalers, the same ones that supply NHS pharmacies.
Ask us if you want to know where a specific medicine came from.
How we are regulated
Hightown Pharmacy is a registered pharmacy, premises number 1089535, regulated by the General Pharmaceutical Council. Daniel Higham is the superintendent pharmacist, which means he is personally accountable to the regulator for how the pharmacy runs.
You can look all of that up yourself on the GPhC register, and you should, for us and for any other online pharmacy you are thinking of using. Any site selling prescription medicines to the UK that will not tell you its registration number is not one to buy from.
In the press
