How Beclometasone Nasal Spray works
Beclometasone belongs the class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It works to reduce the symptoms of inflammation such as swelling, redness and itching.
Beclometasone nasal spray reduces the swelling and mucus in your nose. It needs to be used for 2–3 days to see its full effect and then needs to be continually used. The effects are usually stronger than antihistamines at reducing symptoms
How to use a Beclometasone Nasal Spray
For a 50 microgram-per-spray preparation, the usual dose is two sprays into each nostril twice daily. Once symptoms are controlled, your prescriber may reduce this to one spray in each nostril twice daily. Do not normally exceed eight sprays in total over 24 hours. Use the spray regularly and follow the instructions for the product supplied.
- Before using the spray blow your nose gently.
- Press your finger on one nostril.
- Bend your head slightly forward and put the spray nozzle into your other nostril.
- Slowly breathe in through your nose and press down to squirt a spray into your nostril.
- Breathe out through your mouth.
It is important to use the nasal spray regularly to prevent your symptoms. Once your symptoms are under control you can try reducing your dose.
