What is Daktacort Cream?

Daktacort Cream contains a combination of two active ingredients, hydrocortisone and miconazole, and it can be used to provide fast relief from various skin conditions such as dermatitis and eczema that could be caused from a certain fungal or bacterial infection.
Hydrocortisone is a mild topical corticosteroid and has anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties which help to reduce inflammation, redness, itching and swelling.
Miconazole is an antifungal medication used to treat various fungal infections, including those that affect the skin, nails.

What is Daktacort Cream used for?

Daktacort Cream is primarily used to treat a range of skin conditions, including fungal skin infections, such as athlete's foot as well as various forms of eczema and dermatitis. It effectively alleviates itching, redness, inflammation, and discomfort associated with these conditions.
Do not use Daktacort to treat ringworm unless directed to by a doctor as it can make the condition worse.

Where it can be used

Daktacort Cream is safe for use on the body's external skin surfaces, including arms, legs, face, neck, hands, and feet.

Where it should not be used

Do not apply Daktacort Cream unless your doctor has advised you to:

  1. On broken or bleeding skin
  2. On the gentials
  3. On the anus
  4. On the face

How it works

The combination of hydrocortisone and miconazole in Daktacort Cream works in two ways. Miconazole effectively combats fungal infections by inhibiting the growth and spread of fungi. Hydrocortisone, a mild corticosteroid, reduces redness, swelling, and itching by suppressing the body's natural inflammatory response.

How to use Daktacort cream

  1. Using the fingertips units (see below), apply an appropriate amount of cream to the affected area
  2. Gentley rub the cream into your skin until it is evenly distributed
  3. Wash your hands after application, unless they are the affected area
  4. Repeat this twice daily for up to 7 days

If after 7 days there is no improvement we suggest you contact your doctor for further advice.

Fingertip units (FTU)

An FTU represents the quantity of topical steroid cream dispensed from a regular tube using a standard 5 mm nozzle onto the fingertip of an adult. The fingertip measurement, measures from the tip of an adult finger to the first crease of the finger. This single FTU is adequate for treating an area of skin equal to twice the size of an adult's flat hand with fingers closely aligned, commonly referred to as a 'handprint.'

How long it takes to work

Daktacort Cream typically starts providing relief within a few days of use and can be used for up to 7 days. If after 7 days there is no improvement we suggest you contact your doctor for further advice.

Side Effects

While Daktacort Cream is generally well-tolerated, some individuals may experience mild side effects such as:

  1. Skin irritation
  2. Itching at the application site
  3. Burning at the application site

If you experience severe or prolonged side effects, discontinue use and consult a pharmacist or doctor.
