What is an AeroChamber?

An AeroChamber, also known as a spacer, is a medical device used to improve the delivery of inhaled medications. It is typically used with a metered-dose inhaler (MDI), such as Salamol or Clenil inhaler.

What are the benefits of using an AeroChamber?

Some people struggle to use their MDIs incorrectly, the AeroChamber helps overcome the coordination challenges needed when using an MDI. Proper inhalation technique is crucial for getting the medication deep into the lungs, but this can be difficult for some people, especially children or those with breathing difficulties. With an AeroChamber, patients can take a slow and deep breath, and the inhaled medication is temporarily held inside the chamber. This allows them to breathe in the medication effectively without the need for perfect timing between actuating the inhaler and taking a breath. Without a spacer, a some of the inhaled medication may stick to the mouth and throat, never reaching the lungs.

How to buy AeroChamber

You can buy AeroChamber over the counter at any pharmacy without the need for a prescription or consultation, we also stock them here just add them to you cart and checkout.

Different types of AeroChambers

AeroChambers come in different sizes for both children and adults to ensure proper fit and effective delivery. The Flow-Vu version provides a visual indicator and confirms correct inhalation technique.

How to use an AeroChamber

Using an AeroChamber or spacer correctly is essential. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to use an AeroChamber

  1. Prepare the Inhaler - Remove the cap from the inhaler and shake, 'prime' it if needed.
  2. Remove the cap from the AeroChamber
  3. Insert the inhaler in AeroChamber
  4. Stand or sit up straight and hold the AeroChamber in a horizontal position. Take a deep breath and fully exhale to empty your lungs.
  5. Place the mouthpiece of the AeroChamber in your mouth, creating a good seal with your lips.
  6. Release one puff of medication into the AeroChamber and breathe in slowly and deeply through your mouth.
  7. Hold your breath for about 5 to 10 seconds to allow the medication to settle in the lungs.
  8. If you need to use another puff, wait about 30 seconds between each puff, following the same steps as before

How to clean an AeroChamber

Cleaning an AeroChamber helps maintain the delivery of inhaled medications and stops any particles or residue interfering with the inhalers particles

  1. If there is an inhaler attached, make sure you remove it before continuing
  2. Take apart the AeroChamber and soak all the parts in luke-warm water with a little dish detergent for 15 minutes
  3. Shake them gently, DO NOT scrub the inside of the AeroChamber or mask
  4. Rinse them well and leave them to dry in an upright position, again DO NOT towel dry the inside of the AeroChamber or mask
  5. Try to repeat this weekly
  6. DO NOT use harsh chemicals, bleach, or alcohol to clean the AeroChamber
