What are Hypromellose Eye Drops?

Hypromellose eye drops are a type of artificial tears used to relieve dryness and irritation in the eyes. They can also be used to lubricate and comfort the eyes of contact lens wearers.

How the drops work

Hypromellose is a lubricating agent that helps to moisten the eyes by forming a protective film over the surface.

How to use Hypromellose Eye drops

Using the eye drops is simple and straightfoward:

  1. Wash your hands to prevent bacteria from getting into your eye.
  2. Tilt your head back slightly.
  3. Gently pull down your lower eyelid.
  4. Hold the dropper close to your eye without touching it.
  5. Instill one or two drops into the pocket you have made using your lower eyelid.
  6. Close your eyes and blink a few times to help the drops spread over your eye.
  7. Repeat for your other eye if needed.

Contact lenses

If you wear contact lenses, check the product label to see if the drops are compatible. Typically it is recommended to remove contact lenses before applying the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
