What are Avomine tablets?

Avomine tablets contain the active ingredient promethazine teoclate, which is an anti-histamine with anti-sickness properties. They are commonly used to prevent and treat nausea, vomiting, and motion sickness, as well as to treat vertigo and other balance-related conditions. Avomine tablets come in a 25mg dosage.

How it works

Avomine works by blocking histamine receptors in the brain, which helps to reduce the feeling of nausea and prevent vomiting. It also has a calming effect on the inner ear, which helps to alleviate symptoms of vertigo and motion sickness.

Can I buy Avomine over the counter?

Yes, after a short consultation with a pharmacist Avomine can be purchased over the counter to treat nausea, vomiting, and motion sickness.

How to take Avomine Tablets

The recommended dose of Avomine is one 25mg tablet taken at night for the prevention of travel sickness, or one tablet taken the night before and one tablet taken 1-2 hours before the journey begins. For nausea or vertigo, the dosage may vary, so follow your doctor's advice. The effects of Avomine can last up to 24 hours, so do not take more than the recommended dose.

What is the difference between Phenergan and Avomine?

Both Phenergan and Avomine are anti-histamines used to treat nausea, vomiting, and motion sickness. However, there are key differences between them:

  • Active Ingredient: Phenergan contains promethazine hydrochloride, while Avomine contains promethazine teoclate. Although both are forms of promethazine, teoclate has a longer duration of action than the hydrochloride.
  • Usage: Phenergan is often used not only for nausea and motion sickness but also for treating allergies, as a sedative, and for short-term treatment of insomnia. Avomine is primarily used to prevent and treat nausea, vomiting, and motion sickness.

Who cannot take Avomine

Avomine is generally well tolerated but may not be suitable for everyone. Avoid taking Avomine if you:

  1. Have had an allergic reaction to promethazine or any other ingredients in Avomine.
  2. Suffer from severe liver disease.
  3. Have a history of seizures or epilepsy.
  4. Have respiratory issues such as asthma or COPD.
  5. Have glaucoma.
  6. Have a history of cardiovascular problems.
  7. Are a child under 5 years old.

Please note: If you are due to undergo any medical tests, inform your doctor that you are taking Avomine, as it may affect the results.
