Olive Oil Ear Drops
What are Olive Oil Ear Drops?
Olive oil ear drops are drops of pure olive oil that are used to treat a build up of hardened wax in the ear. The can help with:
- Earwax Softening: Olive oil ear drops are primarily used to soften hardened or impacted earwax, making it easier to remove.
- Relief from Discomfort: They can help relieve discomfort caused by dryness or minor irritation in the ear.
- Ear Hygiene: Regular use can help maintain ear hygiene by preventing earwax build-up.
How the drops work
The drops work in two ways by softening the wax, as olive oil penetrates and softens earwax, the wax can then naturally fall out of the ear or be easily removed. It will also lubricate and moisturise the ear canal, reducing dryness and irritation. This can provide relief from symptoms of ear wax build-up such as reduced hearing, ear ache and ringing in the ears.
How to use Olive Oil ear drops
Using the ear drops is simple and straightfoward:
- It is recommended to warm the olive oil first. You can do this by placing the bottle in warm water for a few minutes, then test the oil's temperature on your wrist to ensure it is not too hot.
- Lie on your side with the affected ear facing up. This helps the oil to stay in the ear and penetrate the wax.
- Place a towel under your head to catch any drips.
- Gently pull the outer ear back and up to straighten the ear canal. Carefully place 2-3 drops of warm olive oil into the ear canal.
- Gently massage the area in front of the ear to help the oil move down the ear canal.
- Remain lying on your side for about 5-10 minutes to allow the oil to penetrate and soften the earwax.
- Do this once or twice a day for a few days until the earwax softens and can be naturally expelled or easily removed.
