Gina Vaginal Tablets 10 microgram
What Are Gina Vaginal Tablets?
Gina Vaginal Tablets are a low-dose oestrogen treatment used to relieve vaginal dryness, soreness, itching, and discomfort caused by vaginal atrophy after menopause. They are inserted directly into the vagina and work locally to restore moisture, elasticity, and the natural environment of the vaginal tissue.
Gina is the first HRT (hormone replacement therapy) medicine available without a prescription in the UK for postmenopausal women aged 50 and over who have not had a period for at least one year.
How Do Gina Vaginal Tablets Work?
During and after menopause, oestrogen levels drop, which can cause the vaginal lining to become thinner, drier, and more fragile. This can lead to symptoms such as pain during sex, irritation, and frequent urinary discomfort.
Gina tablets contain 10 micrograms of estradiol (a form of oestrogen) and are inserted into the vagina using the provided applicator. The hormone is released slowly into the vaginal tissues, helping to restore the natural balance and reduce symptoms over time.
Benefits of Gina Vaginal Tablets
- Targets the cause: Replaces lost oestrogen in the vaginal area.
- Relieves symptoms: Helps ease dryness, itching, and discomfort.
- Improves comfort: Makes daily activities and intimacy more comfortable.
- Non-systemic: Works locally without significantly affecting the rest of the body.
- Available without prescription: Suitable for women over 50 post-menopause.
How to Use Gina Vaginal Tablets
Each pack includes a reusable applicator and 24 vaginal tablets:
- Initial dose: One tablet inserted vaginally each day for 2 weeks.
- Maintenance dose: One tablet twice a week (e.g. Monday and Thursday).
Wash the applicator after each use. It may take a few weeks to notice an improvement, but symptoms usually ease within 8–12 weeks. Continue using the maintenance dose to prevent symptoms from returning.
